The design goal is to design a hotel on the central square “Square Mile” in the former ironworks area in the south of Luxembourg. The selected property is located between the disused blast furnaces, on which there are also two empty sinter basins from the steel period, which will be landscaped as part of the new development and thus offer great recreational areas in the new urban district.
The large hotel complex enriches the urban development situation on the central square, where the building line of the district grid is incorporated. The clearly structured, nine-story building with a strict grid and a dominant base zone forms a strong element at this important city entrance. In addition to the lobby, the base zone as a semi-public building complex also includes a catering facility, which is intended for hotel guests and walk-in customers. The roof area of the dominant base zone is used as a lounge area and, thanks to its open design, offers a sublime view of the urban forecourt. There are 60 rooms of different categories on the floors above. The top floor contains a large wellness area. The building is provided with natural light by two large courtyards. A first atrium is located within the base zone in the restaurant area. The other atrium is located in the middle of the raised building and extends across all floors.
